mailpigeon is run by a private individual as a non-commercial student project. These terms govern your use of the mailpigeon website and the API it's built on (together, "the Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the following terms.

The service

mailpigeon is a disposable inbox service: public addresses can be checked by anyone without an account, and optional accounts add reserving or permanently claiming an address so its inbox stays private. It's meant for throwaway signups and spam mail, not as a primary or long-term inbox.

Accounts and invite codes

Creating an account currently requires a single-use invite code. Codes are meant to be used by the person they were given to, not resold, published, or redistributed. You're responsible for whatever happens under your account, including its password and any addresses it reserves or claims.

Fair use and rate limits

mailpigeon applies rate limits per IP address to keep the service usable for everyone. Limits may change as needed, without notice. Automating around them, or otherwise using the service in a way that degrades it for other people, isn't allowed.

Acceptable use

Don't use mailpigeon for anything illegal, to harass or impersonate anyone, to receive content you don't otherwise have a right to receive, or to abuse the service itself (scraping, automated bulk address generation, attempting to bypass rate limits or access another account's mail). Addresses and accounts used this way can be suspended or deleted without notice. To report abuse, use the contact address below.

Message retention

Messages are deleted automatically 48 hours after they arrive, whether they've been read or not — except messages under a permanently claimed address, which don't expire on their own. You can also delete a message yourself at any time before that. mailpigeon may delete messages or addresses earlier than that, without notice, if it believes they violate these terms.

Public addresses aren't private

Unless an address has been reserved or permanently claimed by an account, anyone who knows that exact address can read its inbox. The address itself is the only access control, same as any disposable-inbox service. Don't send anything to a public address you wouldn't want a stranger to be able to read.

Termination

You can stop using mailpigeon any time you like. There's no cancellation process, since there's nothing to cancel. mailpigeon may also suspend or delete an address, account, or message, or shut the service down entirely, at any time, with or without notice.

Availability and accuracy

mailpigeon is provided free of charge and as-is, with no guarantee it will be available, reliable, or error-free. Mail can be delayed, lost, or misdelivered; addresses and accounts can be affected by bugs, maintenance, or the service shutting down entirely. Don't rely on mailpigeon for anything you can't afford to lose access to.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. mailpigeon is provided free of charge, without a commercial operator behind it, and liability for ordinary negligence is excluded to the extent permitted by law. This doesn't limit liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, or any other liability that can't be excluded under German law.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as mailpigeon does. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
